I’ve finally done it – I’ve discovered the actual food form of crack, and it exists in these Dessert Cinnamon Sweet Potato Fries. Try to eat just one, I dare you. Actually, don’t. Just accept it’s impossible and enjoy the whole batch!
Recently I was visiting my old stomping grounds of Seattle, and in between the nostalgic heavy sighs and the bottomless mimosas and the stopping to pet literally every dog that passed me on the sidewalk (and if you’ve ever been to Seattle, you know that’s a LOT of dogs), my friends and I ended up at a fish & chips joint in Upper Queen Anne by the name of Five Hooks Fish Grill.
Five Hooks advertises its bottomless fish & chips Fridays on an unassuming banner that’s difficult to miss, but also easy to ignore. In fact, leading up to our fateful visit, we’d passed the place on many occasions, exclaiming “Hey look, bottomless fish & chips!” before promptly moving on to a different venue, invariably to somewhere a bit less classy but a lot more likely to put up with our shameless swearing and general tomfoolery.
But finally we found ourselves cozied up to a booth, sipping tasty cocktails and waiting for our orders to arrive. Three out of four of us order the bottomless fish & chips, and it let me tell you – even if you don’t even finish the first plate, it is worth every freaking penny. The cod was so buttery that each bite almost dissolved the second it touched your tongue. 10/10, would indulge again.
BUT. The point of this story.
While we were waiting for food to arrive, as I was absent-mindedly perusing the menu I hoarded after ordering (because I’m one of those people who likes to read EVERY SINGLE WORD of menus), I saw that they offered Cinnamon Sweet Potato Fries.
Angels might as well have started singing.
I don’t know about you, but I have 110% jumped aboard the “sweet potatoes as sweet, not savory” train. Sweet potatoes & peanut butter? Check. Sweet potatoes & oatmeal? Obviously.
Dessert Cinnamon Sweet Potato Fries? It just makes sense.
Full disclosure: This recipe calls for 3 medium sweet potatoes. I may or may not have eaten 2/3 of the finished product. CRACK, YOU GUYS. These fries are crack. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
I served these babies with some vanilla Siggi’s skyr for dipping, which was honestly SO perfect. I think they’d also be tasty with some honey drizzled on top. Or peanut butter. Or…
Ok, I’ve gotta stop now before I’m forced to make another batch. Or two. Or ten.
